Metropolitan Cyprian [II] of Oropos and Phyle | October 18, 2026 (O.S.)

For some years now, societies,
particularly those of developed and prosperous countries, have begun to
recognize the practical as well as the psychological necessity and usefulness
of solidarity and volunteerism.
Consequently, they encouraged
volunteerism and gave recognition and legitimacy—and often financial subsidies
as well—to the corresponding organizations, which fall under the category of
so-called “Non-Governmental Organizations” (NGOs). The majority of these are
women’s organizations, engaging in numerous and often recreational activities.
Thus, in our days, we are witnessing a marked surge in this phenomenon.
Volunteerism is not merely an act
of giving, but a conscious way of life in Christ that transforms societies. In
a world often dominated by isolation and personal gain, selfless giving
constitutes the most powerful antidote. Every hour of volunteer work, every
small or great gesture of solidarity, builds bridges of trust and gives rise to
hope for a better tomorrow.
Moreover, by giving to others, we
discover the best in ourselves.
Volunteerism requires no special
skills, but only the willingness to become the change we wish to see in the
world. Let us not, therefore, wait for the right conditions before taking
action. The right moment is now, and the power lies in the hands of us all,
through the Grace of our Christ and the help of our Most Holy Theotokos...
