Archbishop Anthony of Los Angeles (+1996) on the 1983 Anathema Against Ecumenism

"I know for certain that the late Archbishop Anthony of Los Angeles, considered in his ecclesiological views to be 'the strictest of the strict,' was an absolute and unwavering opponent of the 1983 anathema pronounced by ROCOR. He believed that it was a terrible mistake—not because he supported ecumenism, but because the anathema was formulated so broadly that it could be interpreted as extending even to ROCOR itself—so that, indeed, in this way, we would be anathematizing ourselves."
