Clarification of the Chancery of the Synod of Bishops, No. 4/61/20
The Synod of Bishops, in its regular session, held on February 6/19, 1987, resolved to notify the clergy of our Church, through their diocesan bishops, of the following:
In connection with the complaints that have been made of several cases of concelebration with the clergy of other Orthodox Churches, the Synod of Bishops wishes to remind the clergy that the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad at the present time does not concelebrate with New Calendarists or with ecumenists, as was stated in the Nativity Epistle of His Eminence, Metropolitan Vitaly, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.
This direction of the First Hierarch is binding on all the clergy and members of our Church.
In all cases of doubt which may arise in parish life, the clergy must refer the matter to their diocesan bishops.
[Signed]
Archbishop Laurus,
Secretary of the Synod of Bishop
February 10/23, 1987
