Saint Kosmas of Aetolia: “This I say to you and charge you solemnly…”


 

Even if heaven should descend,
even if the earth should rise up,
even if the whole world should be destroyed, today or tomorrow,
do not concern yourselves with what God will do.
Let them burn your body; let them fry it.
Let them take away your possessions.
Do not be troubled; give them up—they are not yours.
Your soul and Christ are what you need.
Even if the whole world should fall, it cannot take these two from you, unless you surrender them of your own free will. Guard these two, lest you lose them.
