O Lord our God, Almighty and Most Merciful, Thou who art the Creator of all things visible and invisible, who by Thy might upholdest creation and by Thy providence governest the world, who art the Giver of every good thing, do Thou, Great and Wondrous One, look down upon us, Thine unworthy servants, for lo, at this present time, by reason of the scorching heat, not only by day but also by night, we are grievously worn down, we suffer and are sorely afflicted.
Yea, O Lord, before Thee have we
sinned, we have all transgressed and done iniquity, and we know that the whole
creation groaneth and travaileth together until now; and the prevalence of
exceeding high temperatures and the increased peril of heat’s affliction doth
abound, and the assault of the imbalance of the airs doth smite men, and
beasts, and birds, and all things that grow upon the face of the earth.
Wherefore, O Lord, who willest
not the death of a sinner, but awaitest his return and repentance, hearken unto
us who beseech Thee, and turn away from us Thy righteous wrath, and deliver us
from every destruction, calamity, and infirmity brought upon us by this present
heat. Still Thou the harmful burning, and send forth dew and breeze, and grant
temperateness of the airs and an abundance of good things.
For Thou art a merciful and
man-befriending God, and unto Thee do we ascribe glory, to the Father, and to
the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
