Metropolitan Clement of Larissa and Platamon | August 2/15, 2025
With the virus of the heresy of
Ecumenism, which was unleashed a century ago, in January of 1920, through the
well-known Patriarchal Encyclical to the so-called “Churches of Christ,” there
took place the spread of a terrible pandemic. Its first very harmful side
effect was the festal/liturgical division of the Orthodox among themselves, for
the sake of rapprochement and joint celebration with the heterodox/heretics.
And this essentially happened with the undiscriminating and inadmissible
introduction of the New Calendar in 1924.
The few faithful at first, who, with
divine inspiration and encouragement and with miracles confirming the righteousness
of their cause, took urgent protective measures, so as not to be harmed by the
contamination, and began to take refuge in remote chapels to perform divine
Worship according to the tradition of the fathers, faced public mockery, defamation,
and the manifold persecutory rage of the Innovating Church and the State for
decades, despite the fact that they had grown considerably and could not be
ignored as a supposedly insignificant minority. For they were not recognized as
having the right to spiritually protect themselves from the infectious virus of
Innovation, which had begun gradually to corrode the defense and resistance of
those who accepted it, so that thereafter, there might follow the invasion of
various other related infections, such as secularization and the ecumenical
heresy.
As is known, every dangerous
spiritual virus is cleansed and effectively dealt with through the confession
of the right faith, sincere repentance and correction, and a life of the virtues
and participation in the Mysteries of the holy Orthodox Church. The right faith
constitutes the secure foundation, and its renunciation through contempt for
the Holy Tradition, the Holy Canons, and generally of the Synodal order and
practice in the Church, puts in danger and into question all the other divine
means of defense and healing.
The virus of the Innovation of
the New Calendar was considered by many, entirely mistakenly, as harmless and
insignificant, whereas the matter of the Calendar/Festal Calendar is connected
with the Paschalion of the Church and is, therefore, extremely
important. For this reason, the Great Councils of Pan-Orthodox authority of the
16th century dealt with the matter of the Papal Gregorian Reform in 1582 of the
Paschalion and Calendar in a unified and joint way, in a prohibitive and
condemnatory manner. Since then, the Orthodox had a common stance and view
regarding the Calendar Reform until the beginning of the 20th century,
consciously refusing every reason for its acceptance, as unacceptable,
incompatible, and essentially serving heterodox purposes.
A proposal for the examination of
the matter at the beginning of the 20th century by Constantinople met, as is
known, with Pan-Orthodox rejection.
However, the so-called
Pan-Orthodox Congress of 1923 in Constantinople, under the proven Mason and
uncanonical Ecumenical Patriarch Meletios Metaxakis, placed in its reform program,
among other things, the matter of changing the Paschalion and the
Calendar, on the basis of supposedly scientific principles of the civilized
world and indeed of the heterodox, so that the Orthodox might not continue to
follow something supposedly mistaken and outdated.
Thus, the avenue was opened, the
defenses began to collapse, and thereafter greater calamities followed from the
spread of Ecumenism, with the establishment of the “World Council of Churches”
in 1948 (a global hotbed of infection) and all the tragic events that followed
in the second half of the 20th century, with all the known corrosive effects on
the level of theory and practice.
The heresies, old and new, with the
first being many-heresied Papism, were “granted amnesty” and, while remaining
spiritually infectious viral zones, were recognized by the Orthodox ecumenists as
“sanitized safe areas” (!), with some merely small “lawful” and acceptable
deviations, due more to historical and cultural reasons. So that we might
recall the Gospel passage: “If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall
into the pit” (Matt. 15:14).
The deadly virus of the Ecumenist
heresy was also imposed officially/synodally in 2016, in [the Pseudo-Synod of]
Kolymbari, Crete, with once again minimal reactions and resistance.
The subsequent recognition of the
uncanonical Ukrainians in recent years by those who are “blind guides of the
blind” widened the problem with the spread and launch of ever more dangerous
infectious viruses of division, disturbance, and grievous and dreadful turmoil.
And now, the open talk about the
implementation of a common Paschalion between Papists and Orthodox
Ecumenists in the near future (2027 and onwards, according to their new
timetable) proves resoundingly that the initial pandemic, which began in small
doses, is being completed and dangerously established with an intent of full
and suffocating domination.
Also, the many damages on a
collective level, by both rulers and subjects, with the passing of foundationally-subversive
laws, with the dominance of carnal and especially unnatural sins, with
abortions, that is, the murders of unborn beings, blasphemies and sorceries, as
well as unspeakable injustices, and also the defamation and indirect or direct
persecution of Christ and of the Church, compose a disheartening picture, which
only brings and increases contamination.
The pandemic that broke out, by
divine allowance, a few years ago, regardless of how and from where it
originated, reminds us, among other things, of that which has been forgotten:
that the worst soul-destroying and deadly viruses of the serpent, the accursed Devil,
as well as of his instruments, has spread for decades on a vast scale, and
brings righteous divine abandonment upon us. These [viruses] are
disinfected and washed away only by sincere repentance, personal and
collective, without which the desired blessing, grace, and joy for mankind will
not come, but sorrows and pains will increase, until the final test of humanity
by the Lawless One, whom the Lord will abolish through His glorious Second
Coming.
The measures of confrontation
that people propose are either insufficient by themselves or even extremely
dangerous. Crises, bodily and spiritual, are not healed either with compulsory
dangerous experimental preparations, nor with illiberal scenarios of compulsory
digital numbering and societal massification, nor with ecumenical prayers,
gatherings, and declarations of pan-religious inspiration and direction, which
take place every so often in various parts of the world, even in our homeland.
For this reason, instead of the
prevalence of health, safety, peace, and prosperity, we see with sorrow
instability, injustice, wars, violence, insecurity, destructive rivalries,
natural disasters, earthquakes and fires, as well as every kind of delusion,
deceit, and degradation dominating in the world.
Our Theanthropos and
Savior Christ, the only Lover of mankind, desires our practical repentance,
true confession, and spiritual restoration, in order to send down His saving
healing and blessing. The Holy Spirit desires to dwell unhindered within us, to
renew us and make us glad, making us temples of the Triune Godhead, and also to
reign among us and in our midst, bringing about and establishing true
ecclesiastical unity and communion.
It is our duty to remain
steadfast and immovable in our principles and values, in the uninnovated faith
of our Fathers, in the heroism of our ancestors, in our blameless conscience,
in our unceasing prayer, in our sacrificial love, in our fearless approach to
the divine Mysteries and our holy sanctifications. These will guard us, lift us
up, and protect us from every kind of defilement of soul and body, will grant
us cleansing and enlightenment, and will become our divine refuge and
salvation.
Our Most Holy Lady is able, with
the living water of her life-giving Spring, to gladden and enliven our wretched
soul, and the Saints, through their intercessions, are able to deliver us from
every disease and defilement—only let us will it and strive to the end at every
cost for this. Amen!
