The Falling Asleep in the Lord of the Blessed Archimandrite Ioustinos

October 1, 2026

With profound sorrow, it is announced that today, Thursday, 18 September / 1 October 2026, following a prolonged illness, the Holy Sepulchre Archimandrite Ioustinos Mamallos fell asleep in the Lord. He was the renovator of the Holy Shrine of Jacob’s Well and founder of the Church of Saint Foteini the Samaritan within it, in Neapolis (Nablus) of Samaria. His life and many years of service were inextricably bound to the complete restoration and enhancement of this Holy Monastery.

The blessed Father, filled with deep faith and fervent love for Holy Jerusalem, the Mother of the Churches, and the Holy Places, devoted his strength, labours and a great part of his life to the restoration, beautification and preservation of the Holy Monastery, leaving behind a precious legacy and work which will keep alive the memory of his offering.

The Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Holy Sepulchre Brotherhood, with deep emotion, bid farewell to him who has fallen asleep in the Lord, praying that the Lord may grant rest to his soul “in the land of the living, in the tabernacles of the righteous,” where “there is neither pain, nor sorrow, nor sighing, but life everlasting.”

The necessary procedures are already being examined so that the blessed Father’s body may return to the Holy Land for his Funeral Service and burial.

The place and time of the Funeral Service will be announced in a subsequent announcement.

May his memory be eternal!
