It is, therefore, evident for all
the reasons mentioned above that participation in the world's elections and in
so-called "Christian" and "Orthodox" political parties, as
well as political action in the name of Christ, is not in accordance with the
Patristic and Gospel teachings, meaning it is not Orthodox at all. Christ
Himself declared before Pilate that His Kingdom is not of this world. [John
18:36] He also said: "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are
Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s." [Matt. 22:21] That is,
"Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to
God." Finally, He said: "You know that those who are regarded as
rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise
authority over them. But it shall not be so among you." [Mark 10:42-43] That
is, "You know that those who appear to be rulers of the nations behave as
if they were absolute masters over the people. And those who hold great
positions among men abuse their power and oppress them as if they were their
slaves. But such selfish tendencies and behavior must not be observed among
you." So how can we, with arrogance, self-sufficiency, and audacity,
desire, and demand, to make Christ part of this world through political parties
and political action? How can we make the uncreated God a creation of this
world? This is sacrilege and blasphemy!
