A noteworthy confession / self-criticism
● Ecumenism and 2016
●
The church-destroying
heresy was openly revealed in Crete.
...Those who have criticized the
Ecumenical Patriarchate until now on other matters found the opportunity to criticize it also on the issue of Ukraine, while at
the same time carefully absolving the ecumenist views of other Orthodox
Churches and the Patriarchate of Moscow. This demonstrates a lack of
objectivity and ecclesiastical education, and indeed reveals personal
animosity.
I observe that those who until
now criticized the decisions of the Council of Crete in 2016 have now
automatically ceased that criticism and are criticizing the Ecumenical
Patriarchate for granting Autocephaly to Ukraine. This shows that their issue
is with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and, primarily, with Ecumenical Patriarch
Bartholomew.
I find it particularly striking
that, while many Primates who attended the Council of Crete and most Hierarchs
accept that Roman Catholics have apostolic succession and perform Mysteries—and
even uphold this view at least for the Anglicans—they nevertheless criticize
the Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding the restoration of the Orthodox
schismatics and deposed clergy in Ukraine and express reservations about it.
Thus, they apply double standards.
I believe, however, that this
ecclesiological position needs to be clarified. Their opposition to the
schismatics and deposed clergy of Ukraine must also be expressed regarding the
Roman Catholics, Anglicans, and Protestants...
